Welcome

I have a first today! I’m recording my first podcast interview with the inspiring @savvycreativechristina for The Savvy Creative podcast.

Am I nervous? Yes.

Am I afraid I’ll make an ass of myself? Hell, yes.

Do I have Big Girl pants? Yes, and they’re on. 😆

Christina’s podcast celebrates writers in all their forms including bloggers, screenwriters and authors. The episodes I’ve listened to in the last week have been brimming with positivity and inspiration, especially those with @sylviahubbard1 and @authorjessielliott
You can find The Savvy Creative on iTunes if you’d like to check it out. I’m off to try and distract myself for the next few hours. 😥

My #indiefeaturefriday review is for the most spectacular Chosen by @carrieauthor

This final book in the epic Canellian Eye series was always going to be a rollercoaster read, and I felt every high and low of its story. Chosen was one of my most anticipated books of 2020 and I was not disappointed when I finally got it into my hot mitts.

Noe has created a superb world in this sci-fi series. Jumping straight into where Rebellion ended with a heart-stopping cliffhanger, there’s no time to catch your breath. The Elycians are under threat. Canellians have reached breaking point with the abuse they’ve suffered, and with their plans finally taking shape, retaliation brews as potently as the polluted city air.

As with Prophecy and Rebellion, Noe weaves such crisp visuals I once again had a complete surround-sound experience. She’s also not afraid to kill off her characters, so I spent most of my time waiting with dread, or in same cases, anticipation, for death to come calling. I knew how I wanted this series to end, but Noe has a way of working in such twists and turns I honestly didn’t know if there’d be any kind of a happy ever after, even up to the final paragraph.

I did come away completely satisfied, but genuinely disappointed that this series has come to an end. The characters will live on with me for a long time to come, along with the backdrops of scorching desert, filthy city streets and the sublime interior of the Elycian palace.

A thrilling read from the very start, Canellian Eye is a stand-out series with each book entirely deserving of five stars.

Not only did I release the final book in The Voyager Chronicles series a couple of weeks ago, but I also gave the covers a makeover. They’ve all been updated online, although goodreads won’t allow me to hide the old ones 🤷🏼‍♀️ So here’s the new and improved Voyager covers for your delight and delectation! (Well, I think they’re improved 😆)

In September I’ll be working with @platformhousepublishing to reformat all my titles and get them back into print. I’ll also be holding giveaways to celebrate the return of paperback editions, so stay tuned!

#tuesdaytruths 🧐 What was the first band you saw live?

When I was a teenager, my older sister won tickets to a Clannad gig. (Think of traditional Irish/Celtic/New-Age music) They were hugely popular at the time with their single ‘Harry’s Game’ and the album ‘Legend’ which was the music from the tv show Robin of Sherwood. I was obsessed with the show at that time and madly in love with Michael Praed (google him as Robin Hood 😍)

We thought we were the bees’ knees getting all dressed up to go into Dublin City for the gig. It was all very exciting with the haunting music and dry ice and fancy lighting. We felt like celebrities with our special seats and free refreshments.

It was years later before my next gig which was another Irish band called The Golden Horde. I was a bit cooler by then, so didn’t lose my shit when they came on stage. What about you? Can you recall your first live gig?

Happy #monday 💚

‘And one day, the girl with the books became the woman writing them.’

I lived in my local library as a kid, devouring whatever I could get my hands on, but I can’t ever recall thinking I would become a writer. Even when I started to write in my teenage years, it was just for fun. Growing up, it was my sister who wanted to be the writer. She had the beautiful journals, the talent and the smarts.

When I started to write The Dawning in December of 2009, I had no intention of publishing, never mind letting a living soul read what I’d written. At the time, it was simply a case of my head being so stuffed with plot and characters that I had to put it on paper to get some peace.

I finished the first draft in April 2010 and considered for the first time allowing someone read my story. I gave it to my sister-in-law and her encouragement dared me to wonder if others might want to read it too.

Ten years later, I’m no longer just the girl with the books. It was never a hope or a dream of mine to become a writer, but somehow, here I am, living that glorious, frustrating, intense and incredible life.

Was your writer’s path signposted from early on, or did you stumble on to it like me?

📙 #currentlyreading
A Darkening Fate by @ruth__miranda which has a sexy vampire and a time-walking witch tangled in Arthurian legend. The chemistry between characters in this book is off the charts 🔥 🥵

🖥 #currentlywatching

I finished Sons of Anarchy and am still mentally processing the drama of the final season. I’m a wreck after it.
I’m now watching The Fall on Netflix with Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson, and am already addicted. We’ve also dived into season two of The Umbrella Academy which is another thumbs up.

I don’t usually post twice for #selfpromotesunday but I have to today as I’m celebrating my first review of The Claiming. Thank you from the bottom of my glowing heart @carrieauthor ❤️❤️❤️

Posted @withregram • @carrieauthor I've been on tenterhooks, waiting for this final book in the Voyager Chronicles trilogy, ever since beginning the saga of Princess Elaria Winterbourne and her gorgeous dedicated guard Rhyan, from writer @julie_embleton.
Picking up where we left off in The Veiling, Elaria returns home to face an ominous future, leaving her fake, but now beloved family behind her. One terror may have passed, but another looms and, this time, her mentor and her lover may not have the power to stop it. Rathan's vision is almost upon her and the fate of ten realms falls squarely on the shoulders of a nineteen year old woman.
This kind of fantasy saga finds itself in an overcrowded market, except that this one manages to excel and stand shoulder to shoulder with the very best. The plot twists and turns, surprising the reader and giving them what they crave in equal measure. The characters are a delight and each succeeding book builds on the compelling relationships until you both root and fear for them.
If you only read one fantasy trilogy this year, make it this one. Oh and everyone should have a Rhyan in their life. Sigh.
5 stars, of course. Review posted to Amazon UK and Goodreads.

If you enjoy #fairytaleretelling the Creating Cinderella anthology is now available in ebook and paperback.

This wonderful collection holds twelve tales of hope and magic offering a fresh take on the classic tale. The power of transformation weaves through each story, with the variety of settings, locations and times providing unique backdrops. I’m very honoured to be one of the authors along with
@e.h.alger @elibisme @helenwhistberry @kat_dennison @kimberlya271 @natasa.xerri @nightingalerachel @through_the_looking_glass_farm @n.p.conti @bubbly_carla and Ian Donnell Arbuckle.

A special mention goes to @kimberlya271 for her editing skills and endless patience. Herding a bunch of authors into completing an anthology is no mean feat. The very talented @e.h.alger created the cover which I think you’ll agree is stunning.

What’s most important is that all proceeds from our sales go to the Australian wildlife charity WIRES who continue to work tirelessly following the devastating fires experienced in Australia earlier this year. So not only are you treating yourself if you purchase a copy, but you’re helping Australian wildlife recover. It’s a win-win!

Creating Cinderella is available from all Amazon outlets.
