What's the Story?

Author Update

Hello Lounge Members!

Hematite & Hemlock is now well and truly out in the world, and I firstly want to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who grabbed a copy, and to those who have already reviewed it! I know 23 months is a long-ass time to be waiting for a sequel, so I’m truly grateful for all your patience.

Collage of dark fantasy themes: woman in a chalk circle, man by ocean, gothic library, ring, eerie forest cottage, and book cover. Mysterious mood.

The release didn’t go hitch-free. Thanks to Brexit, and Amazon UK’s weird postage policy, my author proof took almost 3 weeks to arrive. So instead of landing two weeks before release date—which would have given me all the time I needed to hunt down those final few pesky typos that somehow always slip through the editing net—the proof thunked through the letterbox six days after release date. I could have delayed the release, but pre-orders were in, and I didn’t want to disappoint anyone, so I stuck to the schedule. I did, of course, find typos (3 of the little feckers, which wasn’t too bad, but still. . .) and once corrected, I uploaded a fresh new, gremlin-squashed file. If you purchased a digital copy, you might like to update the file to get the shinier, gremlin-free version.

My intention was to take a break from writing before diving into book 3 of Oath & Legacy, but towards the end of Hematite & Hemlock, an intuitive nudge started poking, suggesting I write a novella to expand on certain events it wasn’t practical for me to include in Hematite & Hemlock. Not even two weeks after release day, I already have that novella plotted and writing is underway.

There’s been quite a reaction to the ending of H&H.

I get it.

It was intentional on my behalf—hence the novella.

It’s difficult to talk about without giving away spoilers, so all I’ll say is that the events that happen during the month that passes between the penultimate and final chapters will be covered in the novella. It also offers something a little different to the main books; a chance to step inside Ava and Enzo’s heads and experience their story in their own words. Written in dual first person, the companion tale will bring readers closer than ever to Ava and Enzo’s thoughts, desires, and secrets. So, expect more heat, more heart, and a fresh perspective. And rest assured, Readers Lounge members will be the first to get sneak peeks, updates, and all associated release news!

So, as Winter starts to creep across the land, I’m planning on riding out the cold, dark months with writing the novella, researching for book 3 of Oath & Legacy, and designing a brand new look for the entire Turning Moon series – which will include releasing the novella in paperback. But who knows what other creative magic might bubble up from my cauldron?

Paperbacks Update

I’ve had a few emails enquiring about signed paperbacks, so here’s the craic on the process.

Yes, I would be delighted to send a signed paperback, and yes, to anywhere in the world! The service is not available through my website shop at this point in time, so you’ll need to email me at julie@julieembleton.com with your request. Before any payment takes place, I’ll calculate your shipping so shoppers have full disclosure with pricing.

I also offer signed bookplates, which are waaaay cheaper than sending a sizeable book in the post, so do also consider this option. Postage is not cheap – especially to the US, so a signed bookplate is a budget-friendly alternative.

With the exception of my Coveted Power series, all my titles are available to buy in digital PDF or Epub format directly from my website, but I do have a stock of paperbacks for posting—just not available in the shop. Coveted Power will be available to buy in digital format from my website in the future, but I’m tidying up the formatting before setting them loose. I also plan to make The Dawning, book 1 of this epic fantasy trilogy perma-free, so just like Bound, it allows you to try before you buy!

Downtime

With the slog of editing now in the past, I’ve made a point of keeping the weekends a laptop-free zone, so we’ve been catching up on our list of places to visit. We spent a rainy Saturday soaking up beauty in the National Art Gallery in Dublin. First stop was the stunning Caravaggio 'The Taking of Christ', followed by some familiar classics. We also decided to rename a few paintings to resonate more with modern life, and of course, my nerdy tarot self couldn’t help but find tarot cards reflected in many works.

Painting depicting a dramatic scene of a man being seized by soldiers. Dark, tense mood with contrasting light on faces. Red background.
The Taking of Christ by Caravaggio. One of my favourites!

Portrait of a young man in ornate, gold-patterned attire with a black feathered hat. He holds a sword. Ornate gold frame on a blue wall.
Felt cute. Might delete later.

A golden medieval painting shows a woman with flowing hair, surrounded by four angels in blue and pink robes on a blue background.
The Unexpected Arrival of Laundry Day

Last weekend, we channelled our inner fae by frolicking through the Hawthorn trees in the mystical Hill of Tara before sipping cacao by its sacred well. I think Renn would have approved. In fact, I’m sure I heard the whispers of her and her fae kin on the wind. . .

What I’m Reading: I’m late to the game on this one, but I’m stuck into the Fourth Wing series by Rebecca Yarros. I also have Alchemised by SenLinYu waiting, to be followed by The Knight & the Moth by Rachel Gillig.

What I’m Watching: A lot of good stuff! Interview with the Vampire seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix, Mayfair Witches, Wayward, and sitting in the queue, House of Guinness.

What I’m Listening To: Claudio Constantini and his eclectic compositions. I especially love his bandoneón pieces which are delightfully evocative and whimsical.

That’s the story for now, my friends. Sending love and peace to you and yours. I'll be back when there's bookish news and updates to share! Until then, may your shelves never run out of space, and your kettle never run dry.
