Leaving Kindle Unlimited

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

Why I'm pulling by titles from Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program

Julie Embleton's titles leaving Kindle Unlimited

After much deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my books from the Kindle Unlimited program when their current enrolment comes to an end. Unfortunately, my books have been pirated across numerous websites, and should Amazon come across my titles outside their platform, they will deem me in violation of their exclusivity contract, remove all my titles, and terminate my account.

As an author, it’s incredibly upsetting to know that Amazon have done nothing to prevent the theft of copyrighted works from their website, yet punish authors for what is essentially their failure to protect our copyrighted property. In the last number of months, this concern has increased throughout the author community, and numerous authors have already had their accounts terminated, books taken down, and royalties withheld.

As an avid reader and subscriber to Kindle Unlimited, it kills me to withdraw my own titles, but I cannot risk having my account terminated. Below details the dates my titles will be leaving Kindle Unlimited. If you’re a KU subscriber and wish to read any of my books, please download the selected title/s before the listed date not to miss out. They’ll remain in your library until read, so won’t automatically vanish on the listed dates. I will be going wide with all titles once the contracts end, which includes being listed on Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Kobo Plus (which is a subscription service like Kindle Unlimited) to name just a few. My books will remain on Amazon in all formats, but will not be available in the Kindle Unlimited program.

It’s a sad day, but I am hopeful going wide will introduce my books to more readers. Until then, all I can say is a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me through Kindle Unlimited in the past couple of years. I hope you will continue to enjoy my books via new platforms.
